"I want people to just listen to my music closely. It’s not all about killing people, robbing people and selling drugs, like a lot of people might think. I talk about reality, pain and life. It’s just like Trevor McDonald reading the news; I just read it in a different way. A way that more people can relate to and understand." DVS
When it comes to UK rap, people are always going to be critical about the lyrical content. Even though the scene is healthy and popular with young people, it tends to be the older generation who claim that the music glamourizes street life. But DVS wants everyone to take a closer listen, because not everything is as negative as it seems.
Following the remarkable success of previous mixtape “One In A Billion”, Brixton-born DVS has secured himself as one of the best street-rappers we have to offer. The video for his anthem, “Hometown” has racked up almost a million views online ALONE proving there is a demand for UK Rap. Reaping the success from his project, DVS went on to perform at some of the industry’s biggest showcases including a session at BBC’s prestige Maida Vale studios, UKs biggest live urban event ILUVLIVE, alongside Krept & Konan at the Mela festival plus much more. Drawing strong influences from the likes of Tupac, Biggie, and Styles P, DVS has always been a lover of music, but never really looked at it as a career. However, since releasing One In A Billion he has seen things in a different light - after gaining thousands of dedicated fans across the UK.
London Boy American Dreaming; the latest offering is a body of work worthy of an album. Featuring practically all the major players in the UK Rap circle, and then some DVS has demonstrated his ability to not only deliver consistent quality music, but his ability to inspire and uplift through his heartfelt tales of the hood.
Since announcing the release, DVS has shut down another Fire In The Booth for BBC Radio 1’s Charlie Sloth, graced Capital Xtra’ Tim Westwood’s crib session, dropped a crazy visual for his poundcake then hit us straight with the impeccable tape. Sending the online world into a frenzy, the incredibly versatile record has shot to number 1 in the hiphop charts and sitting comfortably at number 4 in the overall British Albums on iTunes, amazing. Having already been championed by some of the biggest DJs, media platforms, artists AND managers; this London Boy is incessantly building awareness for American Dreams!
