L MARSHALL

You may not be instantly familiar with the name L Marshall, but with two Top 5 singles behind him, you’ve definitely heard his music. As a writer, L created Loick Essien’s No. 2 smash ‘How We Roll,’ and he is also the writer and vocalist on Wretch 32’s critically acclaimed No.5 hit, ‘Traktor.’ Now London-born L Marshall is ready to take centre stage as a solo artist in his own right. A captivating, charismatic writer and performer, the 24-year-old is an incredible vocalist who treads the taut line between commercial appeal and underground credibility. Listen to his recently released mixtape. ‘The Wait,’ and you’ll find it impossible not to be won over by L’s skilled song-writing, tempo-twisting compositions and genre-refining vocal. Signed to Mercury Records in April 2011, L has spent the last few months recording his debut album with an A-list line-up of hitmakers.

RYAN KEEN

English born and bred singer-songwriter Ryan Keen, is an artist dedicated to carving out his own unique niche in music. Combining emotionally driven lyrics and warm vocals with his rhythmic-percussive guitar playing, Keen’s songs recall a wealth of influences ranging from Buena Vista Social Club to Bert Jansch, Colplay to BB King. Hailing from picturesque South Devon, the 24-year-old picked up his first guitar on his 8th birthday. From then on he began to learn one style after another: acoustic, electric, classical but most noticeably flamenco, a style that is deeply rooted in the rhythmic-percussive finger-picking technique that he is known for today.

14TH

14th are Tom Barber and Tracey Duodu, a musical collaboration that came together following a ferocious dance battle in Brighton. Tom is the technical core of the band and lays down the beats, melodies and production. Tracey adds her unmistakable voice and vocal creativity to the mix and together they create an awesome nostalgic sound. Influenced by old school dance and rave with 90’s beats and UK garage sounds, their striking sound put them straight into the sights of Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank (who has tipped them as Ones to Watch in the new year, with the duo playing a special session for him). Sunday Times Culture, Dazed & Confused, Mixmag and Clash have also fallen for their musical charm and are tipping the currently unsigned act as breakthrough artists for 2012.
